Rheenendal Bus Crash

On the morning of August 23rd 2011, after an evening of heavy rain, a bus taking school children of Rheenendal near Knysna to the local school. After picking up a young girl the bus driver was unable to make a hill start due to faulty brakes and the bus rolled into a usually small stream now swollen with the rains of the night before. Tragically the driver and some of the children died, surely if it had not been for the quick action of a local diver passing by many more would have perished. Liza took some moving photographs of the pain and suffering felt within the community which made front page of the Cape Town based papers over the next few days. I know that these images played a role in the out pooring off support from both local communities as well as organizations such as the Gift of the Givers. See some of those images here.

The photos arrive yesterday, and we’re thrilled with them. They really tell the story of the day, and are very different from the usual wedding pic’s which is good too! Lots of thought gone into the layout and not something we could have done ourselves. It really is an album to treasure.
